Conn. man's last lotto ticket wins $10M for widow (health insurance)

DANBURY, Conn. - On the day that Donald Peters died, he unknowingly provided financial security for his wife of 59 years and their family.

Peters bought two Connecticut Lottery tickets at a local 7-Eleven store on Nov. 1 as part of a 20-year tradition he shared with his wife Charlotte. Later that day, the 79-year-old retired hat factory worker suffered a fatal heart attack while working in his yard in Danbury.
On Friday, his widow cashed in one of the tickets: a $10 million winner which, in her grief over her husband's death, she had put aside and almost discarded before recently checking the numbers.
"I'm numb," Charlotte Peters, 79, said at Connecticut Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill.
Donald Peters usually bought the tickets for 10 weeks at a stretch, so the winning ticket he bought Nov. 1 for the Dec. 2 drawing was among several that Charlotte Peters put aside as she, their three children and two grandchildren coped with his sudden death.
"I was in the grocery store and I had it checked and they told me I was a winner," she said. "I had no idea how much it was."
She said she thought she had won $6 million but was surprised to learn from lottery officials she'd won $10 million.
Charlotte Peters has 60 days to decide whether to take a $6 million pre-tax lump sum payment or stretch the winnings into 21 yearly payments of almost $477,300 each.
She does not yet know what she will do with the money.
"I've always wanted a Corvette, but I don't think I'll buy one. I'll stick to a small car. I might go to Mohegan Sun," she said, referring to the casino in Connecticut. "I'm going to go home and sit and think."
The Peters children think their father would have appreciated the irony.
"He'd be very mad, he just passed away and she won a lot of money," said Brian Peters, one of the couple's three children. "He'd say, 'Figures!'"

PMI Exam Prep and Latest Updates (NOTEs: FOREX PMP)

PMI® Announces Release Date for New PMP® Examination, Clarifies Changes to PMBOK® Guide:

The content outlined below is a summary of the latest communications we have received from PMI®, along with additional information from other project management consortium insititution.

Whenever possible We attempts to keep its customers abreast of the latest changes, developments and announcements regarding the PMP® certification. The following information pertains specifically to the NEW PMP® exam—the one that will be rolled out by PMI on June 30th of 2009. This announcement covers four (4) specific areas:

  • The New Exam Release Date
  • Differences Between the 3rd and 4th Edition PMBOK® Guides
  • Changes in Eligibility Criteria and Passing Score
  • Recommendations for Study

The New Exam Release Date

As announced at PMI Global Congress North America in mid-October, a new version of the PMP® exam will be placed into worldwide use for any and all PMI® credential examinations
taken on or after June 30th of 2009. This exam will be based on information contained in the new PMBOK® Guide—Fourth Edition, scheduled to be released in December of 2008.

Differences Between 3rd and 4th Edition PMBOK® Guides
Per The Project Management Institute, the upcoming Fourth Edition of the PMBOK® Guide will reflect a focus on improved consistency and clarity. Great consideration was given to remove redundant information and add clarifying statements where needed. Significant improvements were made to improve readability, and terminology was updated only to present them consistently in a verb-noun format.

In an email to RMC dated September 16, 2008, PMI® outlined the major differences between the Third Edition and the Fourth Edition are summarized as follows:

  1. All process names are now in a verb-noun format
  2. Efforts were made to distinguish between Enterprise Environmental Factors and Organizational Process Assets.
  3. A standard approach for discussing requested changes, preventive actions, corrective actions and defect repairs was employed.
  4. The processes decreased from 44 to 42. Two processes were deleted, two processes were added and 6 processes were reconfigured into 4 processes in the Procurement knowledge
    area.
  5. To provide clarity, a distinction was made between the Project Management Plan and project documents used to manage the project.
  6. The distinction between the information in the Project Charter and the Project Scope Statement was clarified.
  7. The process flow diagrams at the beginning of chapters 4-12 have been deleted and replaced with data flow diagrams.
  8. A data flow diagram for each process has been created to show where information comes from as an input and where it goes to as an output.
  9. A new appendix was added that addresses key interpersonal skills that a project manager utilizes when managing a project.

PMI® also noted that a complete list of changes will be found in Appendix A of the new PMBOK® Guide—Fourth Edition.

Changes to the Eligibility Criteria and Passing Score

Unlike the previous exam change cycle, it appears there will be no changes to the eligibility criteria, the application process or the passing score for the PMP® examination.

Recommendations for Study
Given that the PMP® examination is not changing until June 30th of 2009, there is still time to take exam and courses. For further information, please contact Global Knowledge center at www.globalknowledge.com
